Robert Mac O'Dell, 78, peacefully passed away at his home in Springfield, MO, on June 10, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Mac was born on June 14, 1946, in Springfield, MO, to Randy and Margaret (McCall) O'Dell.
Mac attended Strafford High School and continued his education at Southwest Missouri State College (now Missouri State University) and Drury University. Mac worked as a manager at Sears before finding his true calling as a Greene County Deputy Sheriff in 1977. Mac served his community with dedication for 25 years before retiring in 2002. Following his retirement from law enforcement, he found fulfillment in helping others navigate their Medicare needs.
Mac's greatest joy came from spending time with his family. He was an avid marksman who enjoyed shooting at the range and a talented musician who played drums in both the Springfield Community Band and the Republic Community Band. As a third-generation Harley-Davidson rider, Mac carried on a proud family tradition of motorcycle enthusiasm.
Mac accepted Christ as his Savior while watching a Billy Graham crusade on television, a moment that shaped the rest of his life. He was a long-time member of High Street Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. His commitment to service extended to his Masonic brotherhood, where he received his 50-year Masonic pin on January 26, 2022, at Webster Lodge #98. Mac was also an active member of the Abou Ben Adhem Shrine, contributing his musical talents to their band. Mac was also a member of the Scottish Knights Templar for over 20 years.
Mac is survived by his beloved wife, Marilyn; son Mark and his wife Adele; granddaughter Jerrin; and great-granddaughter Hadley Mae. He also leaves behind his sister Jody Asher and her husband Riley; brother-in-law Howard Hardecke and his wife Sherrie; nephew Andrew Asher and his wife Sofiya; niece Aleesha Perry and her husband Tyler; nephew Clint Hardecke and his wife Angie; great-nephews Noah Hardecke, Wyatt Hardecke, Alex Asher, and Micah Perry; and great-niece Savannah Perry.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Randy and Margaret O'Dell; his son, Rob O'Dell; nephew, Dustin Hardecke; and sister-in-law, Sharon (Tay) Hardecke.
Mac will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Known for his warm personality and genuine kindness, he was loved by all who met him and truly never met a stranger.
Services for Mac will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at Greenlawn Funeral Home East with interment following in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Monday, June 16, 2025 at Greenlawn Funeral Home East.

Marilyn and Family, I´m so sorry to hear of Mac´s passing. He was truly a servant of the Lord and those around him, being involved in so many community groups. Today as I write this, his funeral is taking place. (I live in SW Iowa.) I will be thinking of you today as you say goodbye to your sweet husband. (My sis-in-law Sandy Stewart, told me about the obituary.)
Love and hugs, Jan Stewart Bass
