Robert "Bob" Phillips

Robert "Bob" Phillips, age 80, passed away in the comfort of his own home on Monday, December 22, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on July 14, 1945, to his parents, Howard Mitchell Phillips Sr. and Frances Kathryn Dunn Phillips, both having preceded him in passing.

Bob was born and raised in Atlanta, GA and moved to Alabama in the late fifties attending Montevallo High School and graduating in the Class of 1963. His college experience was at Huntingdon College in Montgomery where he met his wife, Susan. He graduated in 1967 with a BS in Education and Sociology and later graduated for the University of Montevallo with a Masters in Guidance and Counseling.

Bob was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving four years in Panama City, Florida, South Korea, and Minot, North Dakota as a Security Police Officer. He had a great love for music, playing in bands and the saxophone, and singing in church choirs. Bob's hobbies included rebuilding old cars, riding motorcycles, and collecting and target shooting with his guns. He never met a stranger and had undeniable charm and always asked "Where are you from?" for a conversation starter. He was soft spoken, kind, and had a very dry sense of humor.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 59 years Susan Phillips; daughter, Laura Dienes-Oehm; son Robert Neil Phillips Jr.; brother, Howard Mitchell Phillips Jr. (Bonnie); grandchildren, Gregory Duro Brown, Mary Elizabeth Franks (Justin), Mitchell Owen Aeden Phipps and great grandchild, Arden Bain Franks, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Special thanks to Enhabit Home Health & Hospice and caregiver, Sandra Jackson, and for the many who cared for Bob during his transition.

Services will be held on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at Hunter Street Baptist Church in the chapel. A visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. followed by a celebration of life service beginning at 10:30 a.m.

Bob will be laid to rest with U.S. Military Honors in the Alabama National Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association in Bob's name.
