Robert "Bob" Mark Ramage; age 61 of Orion, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2023.
Robert Mark Ramage was born March 4, 1961 to Dorothy Ramage, nee Onufrak, and Robert Ramage in Danville, Pennsylvania. He graduated from William Tennent High School and was offered an opportunity to play soccer at Johns Hopkins University. He was a three year captain of his team and a worthy student. After graduating from Hopkins, he attended the University of Virginia where he earned his doctorate in Material Science and Engineering.
His career took him to General Motors, Reynolds Metals Company, Alcoa, and SAPA/Hydro. He has three patents in metallurgy but more importantly, the respect of his colleagues. He is blessed with friendships from work here in Michigan, around this country, and internationally.
While Dr. Bob was respected at work, he was loved by his two children, Tom and Allison Ramage. He was a devoted father, coaching them in numerous sports and standing beside them throughout their educational endeavors. He fondly remembers his family life with Ann, nee Cross, and feels blessed by his friendship with Linda and Bob Cross, his in-laws of 33 years. He is proud of the young adults his children have become and is saddened to miss the marriage of his son to Megan Dunkelberger of Pennsylvania this April.
Bob was also a leader in his church life, being an elder and lay worship leader as a young parent. His faith has also helped sustain him through the many challenges of life, and especially this journey with ALS.
Bob is also survived by his sister, Susanne Turner, and her family. She encouraged him to pursue cycling.
Upon moving to Michigan, Bob took up bicycling and is surrounded by a great group of supportive friends.
He shared a blessed life with his best friend, Nancy Carr. They enjoyed cooking for benefits at the Eagles Club, gardening, hiking and biking, painting, quilting, and holding hands. He was blessed to be a part of Nancy's family and to be called Pop Pop by his Stella and Lucas.
Shortly after Bob's diagnosis, our cycling group organized a team to participate in the Walk and Roll benefit at Stoney Creek for ALS of Michigan. Due to the generosity of Hydro, colleagues, family and friends, we were able to raise over $24,000. In lieu of flowers, a donation to this organization would continue to support families, caretakers, and individuals who are coping with this devastating disease.
Bob will be missed by so many for his gentle heart, his faith, and his friendship. Love you.
