Published by Adams Funeral Home & Cremation Service - Ames on Jul. 9, 2010.
Robert F. "Bob" Roskopf, Age 71 of Minnetonka, MN, passed away on July 9th, from complications of Parkinson's Disease. He is survived by his loving wife of forty-eight years, Chris, and daughters, Cheryl Astrup (Mark) of Alexandria and Cindy Albrecht (Steve) of Savage; three grandchildren, Rachel and Adam Astrup and Kaitlyn Albrecht; a sister, Mary (Jim) Allen; a niece and nephew, an aunt and several cousins. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Bruce "Bobby" Roskopf; his parents, Lorence and Emarine Roskopf; his in-laws, Harold and Lela Gamble, and an infant granddaughter, Allison Astrup. Bob graduated from high school in Melbourne, Iowa, and attended Iowa State University in Ames, where he earned a degree in Civil Engineering. He married his high school sweetheart and Bob and Chris began their married life in Harrisburg, PA, where he spent two years in the U.S. Public Health Service. They returned to Ames and Bob went to work for the City of Ames and began graduate school, earning a Masters and Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering. He then went to work for Rieke, Carrol, Muller (RCM) consulting engineering firm in Hopkins, MN, where he was employed for twenty-eight years. He was the Manager of Environmental Engineering for many years and then became President/CEO of the company in 1982. He retired in 1998 because of Parkinson's Disease. The College of Engineering at Iowa State University awarded Bob a Professional Achievement Citation in Engineering at Honors and Awards day in 1991. He served as a national officer in his professional society, the Water Environment Federation from 1991-1994, where he was awarded the prestigious Honorary Membership. He was also a past-president of the Central States Water Environment Federation. He was Life Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the American Academy of Environmental Engineers, the American Water Works Association, and the National Society of Professional Engineers. Bob was an excellent student and athlete in his school years in Melbourne, Iowa, and kept active and always enjoyed sports and the outdoors. He and his spouse were privileged to have visited all fifty states and enjoyed travel with their family, and later in his professional duties. He and Chris spent many memorable years, often with family, in their favorite winter retreat, Sanibel Island, FL. He loved his family and took great pride in his children and grandchildren. He was a "good man" in every sense of the word and always set a good example for those around him, both in his work life and his home life. He had a wonderful smile, a twinkle in his eye, and possessed great wisdom and wit. Bob will be greatly missed by family and friends who loved him. The family is forever grateful to the staff at Clare Bridge of Eden Prairie for their loving care the past six years and to the staff at Methodist Hospital Hospice. Either flowers or memorials accepted by the family, with a memorial designation to be named later. Today (Jan 2021) I found a thank-you note that you sent to me back in 1998 after your retirement. You had such nice things to say. I will always remember when you appointed me as office manager in St. Cloud. I had reservations about whether I could do the job, given my lack of experience in such duties. I remember how you looked at me with that smile, and the twinkle in your eye, and said "Terry...you were born to do this". Thanks Bob, for being that person to give me confidence in my abilities. I feel blessed that you were there for me at that critical time. I miss you Bob, and I think of you every time I see geese flying in formation. : ) I'm sure you're making heaven even better!
