Robert Schauer Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Farnelli Funeral Home - Williamstown on Mar. 15, 2025.
Robert C. Schauer, age 90, of Ocean City and Clayton, NJ, passed away on March 13, 2025.
Bob was a proud US Army veteran. He later attended Drexel University where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering. He worked most of his career as an engineer for GE/Lockheed Martin before retiring. With a love for the outdoors, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and golfing. Bob developed a love for raising vegetables while growing up on his family's farm in Williamstown and always maintained a garden in his backyard. His co-workers would look forward to the late summer when he would bring fresh Jersey tomatoes to the office. Bob also cherished spending time at the shore, whether in Ocean City or traveling to the Caribbean with his wife. He could often be found tinkering around, fixing anything he could and selling his reconstructed items at his frequent yard sales.
Bob was a dedicated and active member of the Clayton Kiwanis. He played a pivotal role in establishing the Clayton Kiwanis Scholarship Fund, which was first awarded in 1969 to recognize a graduating senior from Clayton High School who demonstrated academic excellence and a commitment to the community through leadership and service. The scholarship initially supported students attending a nearby college, but in 1984, it was expanded to provide assistance throughout the recipient's entire college experience.
In 2015, the fund transitioned to Rowan University, establishing the Clayton Kiwanis Endowed Scholarship to preserve the Kiwanis members' legacy and continue their commitment to the community. Today, the scholarship continues to support graduating seniors from Clayton High School who attend Rowan University.
Since its inception, the fund has provided financial assistance to 80 students, awarding a total of $200,000 in scholarships.
