Robert Sears Obituary

Published by Donnelly's Colonial Funeral Home - Irving on Feb. 8, 2008.
Robert Eugene (Ike) Sears, born on January 24, 1924, at 715 East Powell Street in Fort Worth, Texas, and passed away of Alzheimer’s at 6:23 P.M. on Ash Wednesday, February 6, 2008, in Sunflower Park, Kaufman, Texas. Ike was the husband of Carolyn Reed Sears for fifty-nine years, son of Ralph Raymond and Queenie Lavelle Garrett Sears of Fort Worth, Texas, brother of Juanita Pullen and Ralph Raymond Sears, Jr., all deceased. He is survived by his children, Lesa Thompson and Randall R. Sears; and grandchildren, Alexis Lauren Thompson 20, Kelly Michelle Thompson 18, and Chase Raymond Sears 9. He served in the Army Air Corp from February 1943 to December 1945, in the Asiatic/Pacific Campaign. He earned seven bronze stars, the Philippine Liberation ribbon, three overseas service bars and the undying love of his fiancée, Carolyn, who saved every military check he sent to her to purchase their first house. They were married three days after his return home on December 23, 1945. He graduated with a BA degree in accounting from Texas Christian University. Shortly after Lesa was born, they moved to Jacksonville, Texas where he worked as a newspaperman for the Daily Progress. They were members of the First Christian Church there. After Randy was born, they moved to Irving, Texas, where he continued his chosen career as an accountant with Buddy Schulkauf, then later with Lee Optical in Dallas, Texas. He also was a faithful member of the First Christian Church in Irving for forty plus years. Once Carolyn passed away, his health began to decline and he was moved from Northgate Rehabilitation Center to Sunflower Park Health Center under Hospice care until his death. There will be an open viewing from 9 A.M. until 9 P.M. Friday, February 8, 2008 at Donnelly’s Colonial Funeral Home in Irving, Texas. Graveside service will be held at Cathedral in the Pines in Tyler, Texas and officiated by Ike’s friend, Mark Jackson.

I just learned tonight of Ike's passing, and am sorry I didnt know several days earlier. Ike always seemed a very patient, gentle, Christian man whose family I first got to know in the early 1970s at 1st Christian Ch, Irving. And he was an inspiration when I saw him just 2 or 3 yrs ago, when he had to wait for a ride outside FCC back to the nurs. home where he was then staying in Irving. He just always made every effort to be present on Sunday.

Ike meant a lot to my family. He gave the best hugs and always had a joke to share. When I visited him at Donnally's, he looked so happy and at peace. Now he is back with his true love, Carolyn. Blessings to his Family and know that he was and is loved.
