Robert Sipperly Obituary

Sipperly, Robert "Bob" Morris
GREENWICH - It is with heavy hearts that the Sipperly Family announces the passing of Robert Morris Sipperly, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, on October 27, 2025. "Sip" leaves behind a lasting legacy, through his dedication to family, work, and coaching.
Bob was born on April 23, 1960, in New York City, to William Sipperly and Marie Rose Cassard Sipperly. The youngest of six strong-willed brothers, he was proud to later share his April 23 birthday with his daughter, Isabelle, also the youngest sibling in a family of strong-willed older brothers.
Bob wed the love of his life, Julie Marie (Patten), in 1986, with whom he shared 39 beautiful years. Together, they proudly built a family with their four children, whom they adore and who, in turn, have created families and lives of their own that emulate the devotion, respect, and love of their parents.
Since 1986, Bob has been the proud owner and operator of Sipperly Contracting, Inc., a construction company synonymous with exceptional craftsmanship and historic restoration. Through his work, he met lifelong friends, mentored many young men, and even spent time with each of his kids, on various job sites trying to teach them skills of the trade.
Bob's passion for sports, especially lacrosse, was a defining part of who he was. A standout player at Hobart College from 1979 to 1982, he was instrumental in leading the Statesmen to three NCAA titles. As a father, he needed to share his experience with his kids, but the local high school lacked a program. He saw this as an opportunity, and alongside his wife, sat through school board meetings to establish the Greenwich lacrosse program. As Coach Sip for fifteen years, his dedication, skill, and love for the game inspired young athletes. Sip saw all four of his children go on to play NCAA lacrosse.
Bob was a man of honor and integrity. He found goodness in everyone, while in the streams wading wet, in a frozen duck blind, or a rickety deer stand. He went above and beyond for those he loved and will always be held in the highest regard by those who knew him. Bob remains the only carpenter who is friends with nearly all his former customers.
Bob's family was his greatest joy. His wife adored him, his children idolized him, and his grandchildren treasured their 'Sippy.' He found so much happiness in gathering around his kitchen with them, a block of cheese, a beer, and a good laugh while catching up.
They say a great dad makes an even better grandfather, and Bob emulated that in every way. An ever-present and steady example for his children, and a grandfather who would do anything the kids wanted to do. He led his family with an example of faith and values that will continue to serve them throughout their lives.
Bob leaves behind a family who will cherish his memory and legacy every day, his beloved wife Julie; his sons, Trever (wife Shannon, son Thomas of New York City), MAJ. Derek Sipperly (wife, Rachel, kids, Anna, Robert, and Nina of Fort Drum, N.Y.), Daniel (wife, Erika, kids, Jack and Vivian of Westbrook, Conn.), and his daughter Isabelle (Sipperly) Mayo (husband, Zachary, son, Dean of Highlands Ranch, Colo.); his brothers David, Peter, Richard, and William; his uncle, David Sipperly; his mother-in-law, Susan Patten, as well as countless nieces and nephews of two generations.
Bob was preceded in death by his mother, Marie Rose; his father, William; his brother, Andrew; and his father-in-law, Donald Patten.
Loved by many and a legacy that will live on forever, Robert Sipperly will be deeply missed by his family and this community.
A visitation for family and friends, will be held on Saturday, November 1, at the Greenwich High School athletic field from 12 to 2 p.m.
A memorial service will be held the following day, on Sunday, November 2, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, in Greenwich, N.Y., at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, Bob would be honored, and his family would appreciate, donations being made to The Ranger Lead The Way Fund, https://fundraisers.nyrr.org/tsipperly

We were fortunate to have met Sip and Julie through our friends Nancy and Joe. They always had such a love for family and friends. They loved watching their kids marry and have children. I never saw Sip with anything but a smile on his face. He will be watching over Julie and his family. We were blessed to have met him. He will be deeply missed!

I am saddened and moved by the news of Bob Sipperly's passing. We met in kindergarten and celebrated a few birthdays at each others homes as children. We were classmates and teammates on the high school Lacrosse team. Bob was quiet but lead by example. As the youngest of six athletic boys, he had a innate toughness that showed up on the field of play. He made my senior year by assisting on more that 30 of my goals. He was a 1st team all-American and helped me raise the level of my game immensely. His confidence in me helped me gain real confidence in myself. It boosted my self-esteem, something I am sure he was not aware of. Reading his obituary touched me deeply and gave me insight into who he became as a man and human being. He made an impact in so many areas of his life I can say in the end I am grateful to have known him. Another gone far too soon but his legacy will last and grow through his children and grandchildren. God bless you Bob....
