Mr. Robert William Smith, 77, of the Union Grove Community, passed away Friday, August 16, 2024, at the Fountains. He was born in Gordon County on December 31, 1946, the son of the late Hugh Smith and Nellie Ellen McDougle Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by nine sisters and one brother.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing the guitar and was a meticulous wood worker. He was of the Christian faith and was a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Sue Nolen Smith; one daughter, Lisa (James) Hooks; two sons, Brent (Pepper) Smith and Doug Smith; stepchildren Rhonda Nolen, Ricky Kellar, Diana Brooks, and Jimmy Nolen; grandchildren Eli Smith, Morgan Hooks, Aaron Hooks, Dylan Hooks (Amberly), Megan Eubank, Robbie Smith, and Nicole Smith; great-grandchildren, Hannah Patterson, Aiden Hooks and Izzie Smith; sister-in-law Mae Hill; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
The funeral service will be held Monday, August 19th, at 12:00 Noon at Union Grove Baptist Church, with Brent Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers serving will include James Hooks, Aaron Hooks, Eli Smith, Dylan Hooks, Steve Nelson, and Joey Whitlock.
The family will receive friends Sunday, August 18th, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.His body will be placed in state at the church, Monday at 11:00 AM until the funeral hour
