Robert F. Smrek

It is with great sadness that the family of Robert F. Smrek, Sr. announce that he passed away peacefully on October 10, 2022. Robert (Bob) was born in Manhattan to Mary and Joseph Smrek and grew up in Astoria, Queens. After graduating from William Cullen Bryant High School, Bob studied and graduated with an Associate Degree in Graphic Arts and Printing from New York City Community College. He also served in the U.S. Army Reserves. While living in East Northport, Long Island, Bob enjoyed a lengthy and productive career in magazine publishing having worked at Conde' Nast, Citibank and Look magazine. Later, he moved to Freehold, New Jersey and worked for IEEE as a Production Manager before he retired in 2007. While in retirement, Bob took up metal detecting as a hobby and enjoyed boating on Saratoga Lake. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Maryann (nee Zizzo) of Hartsdale, NY, formerly of Freehold, NJ; his loving daughter Carol of West Harrison, NY and loving son Robert Jr. (Jacqueline) of North Babylon, NY. He is also survived by his cherished grandsons, Jonathan, Jason, Owen and Austin, his brother Walter of Delray Beach, FL and his sister, Joyce (Jean) of Cleveland, GA and nieces and nephews.
Bob will be remembered for his love, devotion and generosity to his wife, children and grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by his family and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
