Robert Sobczak went home to our Lord in the early morning of Oct 2nd, 2024, surrounded by family in his home that he built with his wife, Cynthia.
Robert's life, though still too short for us close to him, was far from empty. He joined the US Navy Reserves at 17 then joined the Army where he was stationed in Alaska and fell in love with its people, community, recreation, and of course, its landscape. When returning home, he worked for a loan company, where he frequently called a clearing house. The voice on the other line that he fell in love with would become his future wife, Cynthia. They married in 1963. She encouraged him early in their marriage to return to school and obtain his Journeyman's card through Ford Motor Company, where he remained in the Tool and Die Division for 42 years before retiring.
Beyond work, Robert loved traveling with Cindy. They adventured to Alaska, Aruba, Cancun and Hawaii. He loved watching the Red Wings, the Lions, and the Tigers. He golfed on Mondays with his fellow Ford retirees and with his son John sometimes joining them. He enjoyed nature with Cindy, and the two of them fed the birds and deer that visited their property. Like many of us, Robert was a man of high hopes, buying scratch off tickets and gaining the knick-name "Scratch-off Bobby" at the local party store. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, assisting at numerous Fish-Frys, Music in the Park, Tootsie Roll Drives and the yearly Christmas Tree Sales. A giving and generous man, he donated to several charities and was an advocate and supporter of the Dominican Sisters of Ann Arbor & Hartland. He was devoted to St. Therese of the Little Flower, praying to her daily and sharing her prayer cards and rose pins with nearly everyone he met.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Helen, his son Joseph Anthony, his brother Raymond, and his sister Delphine. He is survived by his wife Cynthia, daughter Victoria (Michael) Ellis, son John and his three granddaughters: Sarah (Matthew) McGregor and their son Merrick, Erin (William) Layton and Diana Ellis.
Praise be to God that he is no longer in pain, and that he's won the biggest scratch off win there is--HEAVEN!
A funeral mass will be held on October 18th, at St. Mary, Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church, 1955 E Commerce St, Milford, MI 48381. Visitation will begin in the narthex at 10am, mass at 11am followed by military honors, and then a luncheon in the hall.
The Burial will be on Oct 21st at 10:30 am at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly.
The Knights of Columbus Rosary will be on Robert's birthday, October 27th, after 8am mass also at St. Mary, Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Dominican Sisters of Mary Mother of the Eucharist, 4597 Warren Rd, Ann Arbor, MI 48105 or Dominican Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, 13501 Highland Rd, Hartland, MI 48353.

It was always a pleasure to play golf with Bob on Mondays. He was usually accompanied by his son John, who was also fun to play with. He will be missed by the Good Old Boys.
I would like to send my condolences to John and the rest of Bobs family for their loss.
Sincerely Ed Helka
