SOVIS, Robert Lee - Age 89, of Fenton, passed away February 27, 2024. Funeral services will be held 1 PM Sunday, March 3, 2024 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Rd., Fenton. Visitation will be held from 2-7 PM Saturday. Private burial in Elmwood Cemetery, New Lothrop. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to the Sloan Museum in Flint, MI. Robert was born February 3, 1935 in Flint, the son of Steven and Mary Sovis. He was a 1956 graduate of GMI (Kettering University) and went on to earn a Master's Degree from University of Michigan. He remained a staunch supporter of Kettering University throughout his life. Robert retired from General Motors after 38 years of service. In 1972 he founded the Sloan Museum Auto Fair and then in 1994 the Golden Memories Auto Show. Both shows raise money for Sloan Museum and still run every year. He also served on the Executive Committee of Back to the Bricks since its inception in 2004. Robert was honored in 2018 with the Kettering Civic Achievement Award. He had donated vehicles to the Sloan Museum, including his 1939 Chevrolet Master Deluxe Sedan and the 1947 Chevrolet Fleetmaster Convertible, which belonged to his late son, Ron. He donated his 1973 GMC Motorhome and 1986 Chevrolet Chevette Diesel to the National Auto and Truck Museum in Auburn, IN. Robert is survived by his wife, Diane, of 40 years of marriage; children, Richard (Debi) Sovis, Roger (Mary) Sovis, Roy (Pam) Sovis, Russ (Kari) Sovis, Renee Hard, Ryan (Mary) Sovis, Scott (Karel) Schupbach, Stephanie (Pat) Wood and Darcy Schupbach; 20 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister Marilyn Sigafoose (Don White). He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Ronald. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
