Robert "Gene" Eugene Stanford, 93, joined his heavenly father on October 22, 2023. Gene was born on December 27, 1929 in Odem, Texas to John Stanford and Stella Gray but lovingly raised by Rex and Thelma Stanford.
Gene was baptized on October 2, 1938 at First Methodist Church of Odem, Texas. He was later confirmed on April, 11, 1954 at Trinity Lutheran Church of El Campo. Gene proudly served his country and enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in New York. After serving he attended and graduated from University of Houston. On May 30, 1954, Gene married the love of his life, Dorothy Schoeneberg. Gene and Dorothy welcomed four children into their lives. He enjoyed woodworking, mowing, gardening and feeding his birds.
Gene is preceded in death by parents, Rex and Thelma Stanford, birth parents, John and Stella Stanford; Sister, Mary Stanford, brother Clinton Standford, brother-in-law James Stern, sister-in-law Ethelene "Sissy" Schoeneberg and Esther Stanford.
Gene is survived by his loving wife of 69 years Dorothy; children David Stanford (Sista), Michael Stanford, Diane Ralph (Carl) and Linda Stanford. Grandchildren Vincent Stanford, Christopher Stanford, Alethia Stanford, Jessica Stanford, Robert (R.J.) Stanford, Shannon Forbes (Tyler) and Nichole Ralph. Great-Grandchildren Trace Forbes, Layne Forbes, Noah Moore, Valerie Stanford and Alyssa Barber. Sister-in-law Alice Stern as well as brother-in-law Truman Schoeneberg.
A visitation for Gene will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2023 from 5pm to 7pm at Brenham Memorial Chapel located at 2300 Stringer Street, Brenham, Texas. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, October 27, 2023 at 11am at Brenham Memorial Chapel.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, family request memorials be made to Abiding Word Lutheran Church and Cal Farley's P.O. Box 1890 Amarillo, Texas 79105-9985
Services are in the care of Brenham Memorial Chapel and online condolences may be shared with the family at www.brenhammemorialchapel.com.
