Robert Lee Stanley, known to family and friends as "Bob," passed away on January 30, 2025, at the age of 97. He was born on April 27, 1927, in Linden, California, the youngest of six boys to Lewis Stanley and Emma Kennon. Bobs warm heart, unwavering faith, and strong sense of family left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
Bob graduated from Linden High School in June 1945, where he was Student Council President and a proud member of the basketball team. Just two weeks after graduation, he was drafted into the Army as World War II was coming to a close. After his honorable discharge, Bob attended the University of the Pacific, graduating in 1950.
It was love at first sight when Bob met Betty Jean Bonds at a big band dance at the Stockton Civic Auditorium on June 7, 1947. They were married on August 7, 1949, and spent 70 wonderful years together, raising their two children, Jeff Stanley (Lorrence) and Joni Wiley (Jon). Bob was a dedicated and loving grandfather to Kara Cunningham (Blake), and he cherished his great-grandchildren, Kayleigh and Carson. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty, and his grandson, Kevin Robert Wiley.
Bob enjoyed a successful career as the Administrative Manager for E&J Gallo Winery. As a devoted member of First United Methodist Church in Modesto since 1959, Bob served on nearly every committee, contributing countless hours of leadership and service.
Bob was a dedicated blood donor through the FUMC Delta Blood Bank program, donating over 25 gallons throughout his life. In 1982, Bob was honored with the Modesto Chamber of Commerces first Distinguished Service Award recognizing his many years of service.
Bob was a passionate golfer and member of Spring Creek Country Club. He loved traveling with his family in their RV trailer, creating memories that would last a lifetime. He was a dedicated fan of the Sacramento Kings.
Known for his corny jokes, heartfelt stories, and his kindness, Bob touched the lives of many with his warmth, compassion, and faith.
A Celebration of Life for Bob and Betty will be held on Friday, March 7, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Modesto. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that charitable contributions be made in Bobs honor to the First United Methodist Church.
Bob will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him. His legacy of love, faith, and generosity will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
