Obituary
Robert Anthony Sudano, born to Philip and Lillian (Angelino) Sudano on May 29, 1930, died peacefully at home on September 14, 2023, at 93 years old. "Bob," as everyone knew him, is survived by his wife, Paulette, his four children (Lisa, Robert, Susan, and Gina) and their spouses (William, Linda, Bobby, and Peter) and his nine grandchildren (Robbie, Michael, Stephen, Lucas, Jonathan, Jack, Emily, Jennifer and Jake). He has two great grandchildren: Olivia and Logan.
Bob was born in Queens, New York, moving when he was young to a farm in Connecticut but some years later coming back to spend most of his life living on Long Island. He lived in Wyandanch, served in the Korean War, and then built a home in Bohemia after marrying our mom, Emily, in 1957. Dad was a cement mason and worked long, hard hours. While working on a job, he fell down an elevator shaft in 1970 and was not supposed to make it through the night. God had another plan, and he lived a long and healthy life.
After retiring, Emily and Bob bought a place in Florida and were snowbirds for many years. Dad loved going to morning mass with mom, playing golf and tinkering around fixing things in his house or anyone else's home who needed his assistance.
Mom and Dad eventually moved to Florida full-time. Mom passed away in July of 2009. In May of 2010, Dad married Paulette and moved to Palm City, Florida where he remained until he passed away. Dad was dedicated to the Blessed Mother and was known to say multiple rosaries in a day. His strong faith helped him to rely on Jesus and Mary for everything and not to worry about too much. Dad was diagnosed with Parkinson's in his late 80's. Soon after that, dementia set in and over time dad required assistance to live at home with Paulette. We were blessed to find excellent caregivers who treated him like family and loved him very much. We want to thank Eva and Birute in particular for all of their love and support. Dad was ready to die and died very peacefully at home. He will be greatly missed but we are grateful to have had him in our lives for so many years and grateful God took him home peacefully, knowing everyone loved him.
A funeral mass will be held at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church at 1454 SW Mapp Road, Palm City on Monday, September 25th at 10 am. A luncheon/reception will be held immediately following at The Willoughby Golf Club at 3001 SE Doubleton Drive in Stuart. All are welcome.
The burial will be at the Calverton National Cemetery at 210 Princeton Blvd, Calverton NY on Friday, September 29th at 10 am with a luncheon/reception to follow at East Lake Inn and Spa at 5720 NY-25A in Wading River Long Island. All are welcome.
Anyone wishing to attend the burial can meet at Raynor & D'Andrea Funeral Home at 245 Main Street in West Sayville at 9 am or go directly to the cemetery at 10 am.
