Robert Sullivan Obituary
Robert Frederick Sullivan
1948-2025
West Barnstable - Robert "Bobby" Sullivan, 76, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side, on August 29, after a period of declining health.
Born in Boston, MA, on November 1, 1948 - All Saint's Day - to Frederick and Edith Sullivan. He is predeceased by his parents and his older brother Daniel.
As a young boy, he loved attending Red Sox games with his buddies. He was in the Centerfield bleachers when Ted Williams hit his final home run and thought the ball was coming straight to him. In 1963, Bobby moved to Hyannis, MA and attended Barnstable High School where he met the love of his life, Marie Tripp. During his high school summers, you could find him working at The Barnacle at Craigville Beach.
After high school, Bobby enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served in the First Marine Division in Da Nang, Vietnam. Upon his return home to Cape Cod, Sully was employed by Buzzards Bay Gas Company, now National Grid, and retired after 38 dedicated years. In the years following retirement, he enjoyed his position at the gatehouse of Oyster Harbors, welcoming residents and visitors to the island. His social and charismatic nature made him a natural in this role. He truly loved his time there and valued his relationship with his friend and boss, Matt Thomas. Bobby's family will be forever grateful for the support from Matt and the OH community.
While having many nicknames, his favorites were Dad and Papa. He showed his three daughters what unconditional love is and taught them how to be parents. He embraced the role of grandfather and found great enjoyment in caring for his six grandchildren. He loved to have conversations about sports and music and had a list of things he hadn't finished teaching his grandkids. He took any opportunity he had to instill important life lessons to them and those lessons will stay with them forever.
Bobby's favorite pastime was attending concerts and listening to music. As an avid Bruce Springsteen fan, he saw "The Boss" over 40 times in concert. His final show was August 2023 and he was able to experience this with his wife, daughters, and oldest grandson. A passionate Boston sports fan, he had the Red Sox on until the very end.
Bobby will be remembered as a good family man and a loyal friend. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed the simple things in life. The impact of his loss has affected his family and friends deeply and he will be greatly missed.
Loving husband to his high school sweetheart turned beloved wife of 53 years, Marie; devoted father to his three daughters and bonus sons - Lindsay and Peter Ginnetty of West Barnstable, Jamie Sullivan and Jon Gremila of Harwich, and Kimberly and Benjamin McGrath of South Dennis; cherished grandfather of Michael, William, Jonathan, Maxwell, Laila, and Julia. Bobby leaves his sister Debra Viera (Anthony) and brothers Frederick Sullivan (Darlene), Mitchell Sullivan, and Billy Sullivan (Holly). His large extended family includes many nieces and nephews, a great-niece and great-nephew, and many lifelong friends.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the healthcare providers who cared for Bobby. We are eternally grateful to Dr. Saberi and Lois Bartels, NP; Dr. Arnold and Will Lary, PA; and Dr. Ziegenbein for their compassion and care over the years. A special thank you to his VNA nurses, Yadira and Maria, whose support was instrumental in his final days.
Visitation will be on Friday September 5, from 4-7 PM, at Chapman Funeral & Cremations, John-Lawrence Chapel, 3778 Falmouth Road, Marstons Mills. The Funeral Mass will take place on Saturday, September 6, at 11 AM, at Our Lady of Victory, Centerville. Burial immediately after.
