Robert Edward Suski, 80, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family and Faithful Savior Jesus Christ, on December 3, 2024. Born on January 17, 1944, in Schenectady, New York to his loving late parents, Edmond Joseph and Sadie Suski, he grew up in a strong Polish family that instilled in him a sense of pride in his heritage.
From a young age, Bob was fascinated by the mechanics of how things worked, from architecture to machinery to his lifetime appreciation for 1960's muscle cars. He attended Mont Pleasant High School before entering the world for real-life experience. Bob honorably served his country in the United States Army from 1961 to 1964, an experience that brought him friendships, adventures, and stories he would cherish throughout his life.
In 1966, Bob's life took a turn for the extraordinary when he met Diane Kingsley. On their first date, he boldly told her, "You are going to be the girl I marry," and he was right. They wed in 1968 and embarked on a 56-year journey filled with love, laughter, and a beautiful family.
Bob began his career at General Electric and later joined New York Telephone, now Verizon. He worked as a lineman and technician and witnessed and contributed to the telecommunications revolution.
Bob was a faithful Christian and served God with devotion. The Suski family are parishioners of Ballston Center Reformed Church. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish, especially for Walleye on Saratoga Lake. He also enjoyed feeding his backyard birds, spending time in his vegetable garden, and chasing a good thunderstorm. In his later years he enjoyed bringing 2 lawn chairs, and the love of his life Diane, to the Saratoga Lake boat launch, where they relaxed, talked to the boaters and the fisherman.
His talents as a handyman were unparalleled; he could build anything, a skill he showcased by renovating his forever home in Schenectady. A gifted cook, Bob passed down his family's cherished Polish recipes to his children and grandchildren. He found his greatest joy in family gatherings, where his sense of humor and generous spirit were always on display.
One of Bob's proudest moments came when his first granddaughters were born on the same day at the same hospital, an event so special that it garnered local news coverage, thanks to his newsworthy exclamation! Bob's happy place was the serene shores of Gloucester, Massachusetts; at the Good Harbor Beach Inn, where he found solace and joy, a sanctuary where the Suski family's laughter mingled with the sea breeze.
Bob was the embodiment of friendliness, faithfulness, and handiness. People were drawn to his warm and patient nature, and he was beloved by all. His legacy will live on through the traditions he established, and if you received a homemade Babka from him, then you were one of his favorite people.
Bob's life was a testament to the power of faith, the importance of family, and the joy of a life filled with purpose and passion. He will be deeply missed, but the light he brought to this world will continue to shine brightly through his family and the many lives he touched.
Bob was predeceased by his parents, his brother-in-law, and best friend Jim Addison. He is survived by his devoted wife, Franceine "Diane" Suski; his children, Robert Edward Suski II (Kelli), Deborah Lynn Suski-Shafer (Michael), and Edmond "Eddie" Joseph Suski II(Gina); his adored grandchildren, David, Dylan, John, Samuel, Coty, Sallie-Grace, Madeline, Caden, Robbie, Katherine, Benjamin, Michael, and Gabriel; and great-grandchild, Kalila. He also leaves behind his sister, Joyce Addison, and many cherished, nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd. on Monday, December 9th from 5 to 7 PM. Funeral Service will begin at the Glenville Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 10th at 12 PM. Military honors and committal service will follow at Saratoga National Cemetery at 2:30 PM.
Memorial donations may be made to Ballston Center Church, 58 Charlton Road Ballston Spa, NY 12020 or Life Savers Ministries, 16 East Pine Street, Gloversville,NY 12077 or City Mission of Schenectady, PO Box 760 Schenectady, NY 12301.
