Robert Swickard Obituary

ROBERT D. SWICKARD Robert (Bob) D. Swickard, age 85, passed away August 9, 2025, at his home in Newton, KS.He was born May 19, 1940, in Newton, KS, to Melvin and Pauline Swickard (Dillon). He married Sharon K. Ritchie (Merical) in August. 20, 1961.They had two sons, Ron Swickard and Roger Swickard.He married Janice (Jan) Emerson on December18, 1982, and then Bob gained another son, Sterling Emerson. Bob attended Newton High School, where he participated in the band and was drum major.He graduated in 1958.He was a lifelong member of Salem United Methodist Church, where he held numerous positions throughout the years.Bob was also an active member of the Lions Club for many years and received the Melvin Jones Fellow award. Bob worked at DMH (Newton Plant) for 25 years.After retiring, he owned and operated the Trivet Restaurant and then owned and operated Grandpa's Computers. Bob enjoyed photography and was rarely seen without a camera.He loved to work on computers and talk with people in his shop.He also enjoyed listening to Gospel music and really enjoyed the Gaither Vocal Band.Bob also loved planning, organizing, cooking, and serving the Annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner for many years. Bob is survived by his wife, Janice, and three sons, Ron (Sheryl), Roger (Kristi), and Sterling (Kristina). He is also survived by one brother, Jack, 13 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his Father, Mother, and a brother, Dick. Memorial service will be held at Salem United Methodist church on Friday, August 15, at 2:00 pm with a reception following the service. Memorials may be given to Salem United Methodist Church and Good Shepherd Hospice in care of Peterson Funeral Home.
