Robert Alexander "Bobby" Swift, Sr., was born on August 7, 1946, in Norfolk, Virginia, to the late Saint Margaret Swift and Benjamin Swift, Jr. On his 79th birthday, August 7, 2025, he peacefully transitioned into eternal rest.

Bobby was grounded in faith, having been raised in the United House of Prayer. He attended Norfolk Public Schools and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1964, where he excelled as a talented athlete, especially in football. Soon after, he enlisted in the United States Navy. Although his military service ended early due to injury, his dedication to service and love for his country never wavered.

A man of hard work and integrity, Bobby spent more than 35 years as a longshoreman with ILA Local 1248. His commitment and reliability earned him deep respect from colleagues and friends alike.

Bobby shared a beautiful life with his beloved wife, Yvonne Swift. Known for his humor, warmth, and steadfast nature, he also had a sharp sense of style and was admired for always wearing fashionable clothing. Bobby and Yvonne often dressed in matching outfits-a reflection of both their love for each other and their shared elegance.

His memory will forever be cherished by his devoted wife, Yvonne Swift; his children, Marie (Toni), Julia (Tracey), Sanita (TootToot), Robert Jr. (Slick), Michelle (MiMi), Jesika, Jennifer-(Tony), Toneka Thornton, Celestine Harris; as well as his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. Bobby's legacy of love, strength, loyalty, and timeless style will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Saint Margaret and Benjamin Swift, Jr.; his children, Gary and Denise Cooper; his brothers, Marshall "Bookins" Swift and Cavanaugh "Butch" Swift; his great-grandsons, Raymond and Reontay Swift; and his aunts, Virginia L. Swift, Vivian P. Swift, Lillian Holloway (all of Norfolk), and Shirley Harris (Atlanta, GA).
