Robert D. Tatman, 84, of Columbus, passed away at 7:40 p.m. Thursday, May 13, 2021 at his home with his daughter and wife by his side. He was born in Milford, IN on June 27, 1936 to Theodore Tatman and Amy Hazel Menefee Tatman.

Robert served in the United States Navy from 1954 to 1974, during that time he did three tours of duty in Vietnam, retiring as Chief Petty Officer. He was employed at Columbus City Utilities for 14 years, where he met his wife Suellen Robbins and they enjoyed 35 years of marriage until her passing in August of 2011. In December of 2012 he married Patricia Shepherd Tatman, and she survives. He was an avid golfer, playing almost daily for several years. He also enjoyed playing tennis with his brother Donn.

Survivors include his daughter, Tammy Tatman LaRue of Columbus, IN; step-children, Kathy (Steve) Piper of Columbus, IN, Nicole (Trevor) Wylie of 29 Palms, CA and Keith (Dorothy) Robbins of Columbus, IN; a brother, Donn (Patti) Tatman of Burney, IN; 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Mary Parker and a grandson, Katlin Piper.

A public graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, May 17, 2021 at Garland Brook Cemetery, Sec. 51 with David Burnett and Robert Vester officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to Our Hospice of South-Central Indiana.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home.
