Robert Franklin "Bobby" Taylor was born on July 30, 1936, in Philadelphia to Francis and Sylvia (née Haldeman) Taylor. He spent his formative years in North Wales, Pennsylvania, growing up in the 1940s and 1950s-a time of small-town adventure and lifelong friendships.
The summer Bobby's family moved to North Wales, he became fast friends with Eddie Veit, beginning a remarkable friendship that lasted 79 years. The two spent countless days feeding and riding horses at Strong's Farm, where Bobby developed an early love of cars-especially his beloved hot '40 Ford with the hot '41 engine. He and Eddie once drove it all the way to Scranton, laughing (and pushing) their way up the hills when it stalled.
Bobby was a 1954 graduate of Lansdale High School, where he excelled in sports. He pitched for the Lansdale High School baseball team and even had the opportunity to try out for the Philadelphia A's. He also played basketball.
His lifelong passion for athletics continued as he became an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians and the Browns. He also loved playing golf, spending many years on a league.
As a teenager, Bobby worked at a local factory painting radio and television towers-the kind of job that built both character and community. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Gwendolyn "Sue" (née Thomas) Taylor, who would become his wife of 69 years. Every night, they held hands and sang "You Are My Sunshine" before going to sleep-a tender ritual that captured their enduring love. Together, they built a home filled with laughter, warmth, and devotion.
Bobby was a man of faith and a devout member of his church community, loyally attending services wherever life took him. He also enjoyed cooking, especially making soups-a passion inspired by Eddie's father, Sam, who always had a pot simmering on the stove. He retired from Westinghouse in 1998.
Bob was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Sue (Gwen); daughters Cindy and Donna (John); grandchildren Jonathan, Jessica (Tom), Amanda (Nick), Kevin (Evie), and Adriana (Paul); great-grandchildren Cynthia, Colin, Ewan, Vera, Cora, Emilia (Emmy), and Holden. He is preceded in death by his father, Francis; his mother, Sylvia; and his daughter, Robyn (Tod, deceased).
He immensely loved and cherished his sisters, leaving behind Judy (Gordon), Nancy (George, deceased), and Carole; nieces and nephews Melissa (Walter), Julie, Christopher (Jeannette), and Danny; as well as great-nieces and great-nephews Taylor, Alexander, Gabby, Brady, Jacob, and Jack.
Cindy, Robyn, and I were truly blessed with a wonderful father. He will be remembered for his easy-going humor, love of his family and cars, his loyalty to friends, and the way he always made people feel welcome. His lifelong friendship with Eddie stands as a testament to the kind of man he was-steady, kind, and full of heart.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
The family will receive friends at Brickman Bros. Funeral Home, 37433 Euclid Avenue in Willoughby on Saturday November 8, 2025 from 1-3 PM, with a service to follow starting at 3 PM celebrated by Rev. James Lane.
