Robert Thomas Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 25 to Jan. 26, 2024.
Robert Ellsworth Thomas, age 79 of King of Prussia, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 21, 2024. He was born in Scranton, PA on February 28, 1944, son of the late Robert Charles Thomas and Margaret (Morgan) Thomas. Bob was the beloved husband of Barbara Ann (Allspaugh) Thomas. They had been married for 56 years.

Raised in the Tripp Park section of West Scranton, Bob grew up attending Samuel F. B. Morse elementary school and Scranton Central High School. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Penn State University before setting out on a career as a copywriter. Writing for the GE corporation, he moved from northern New York state to the southern part of the state and eventually to King of Prussia. Not wanting to continue floating from city to city with GE, Bob instead settled into the world of advertising, and continued writing with various Philadelphia agencies until he retired in 2006. In addition to writing, Bob enjoyed Penn State football, photography, trips with his family to national parks and, above all, being at his cottage at Lake Sheridan where he spent many wonderful summers growing up. Over the 75 years he spent at the lake, he built a true lake family and happily contributed to the lake community. He also fully embraced his role as "Poppy" to his three grandchildren and loved teasing them, slipping them pocket money and otherwise taking pride in who they were and what they accomplished. He will be greatly missed.

In addition to his wife, Barbara Ann, he is survived by 2 daughters, Wylie Thomas and Hillary Borzillo (Jay), a beloved cousin, Bud Morgan, 3 grandchildren, Maggie, Bryn and Tyler, and many dear friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to pay respects on Saturday morning, January 27th from 10-10:50AM in the Valley Forge Presbyterian Church, 191 Town Center Rd., King of Prussia, PA 19406. Services will commence at 11AM in the church. Interment will follow at Washington Memorial Chapel (located in Valley Forge National Park).

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

My deepest condolences to all of Bobs family and friends. The Jenkins family have our roots at Lake Sheridan. My brother, Arch still resides at the homestead at the bridge, and brother, Bill, has a place on the big lake. We delivered summer Scranton Times and Tribune on both sides of the Lake. The Morgans and the Thomas´s were two of our best customers and tippers as well. My father always told us growing up that we were somehow related. My fondest memories of my younger years are of skiing off the Thomas boat with Bobby and his cousin, Susie. As a matter of fact, I had my first skiing lesson off the Thomas boat. Bobby was always so generous with his time and would spin us around Stump Pond, as well as the Big Lake. He could not have been nicer or kinder to myself and my brothers. He will always have a very special place in a 10 year old girls heart. He always found the time and generosity to make a bunch of kids from the Little Lake so very happy. I am sure he followed through with that in every aspect of his life. God Bless him and May He Rest in Peace.

My earliest memory of Bobby & the Thomas family was probably 55 years ago? It was Regatta Week at our Lake Sheridan. Cottages were decorated and floats were being built. The Thomas´ went all out and built a dragon! It was Puff the Magic Dragon! Little Scottie Clark was their Jackie Paper, ready to defend the Land of Honah Lee with his cardboard foil sword! As a 6yr old little girl, I was amazed!!!!
