Robert E. "Pete" Thomas

Age 87 passed away Wednesday, November 5, 2025 at his home with his loving family by his side. Born on August 15, 1938 in Roaring Branch, PA; Pete was the son of the late, Robert F. and Madaline Churchill Thomas. In service to his country, Pete served in the U.S. Airforce from 1956-1958. He married the love of his life, friend and partner, Donna VanZile on January 20, 1962. They have shared a wonderful life together, seldom seen apart. Pete was an active member of the Chemung Valley Street Rods, enjoyed auto racing and was a NASCAR Fan. Pete was a heavy equipment operator for many years, employed by Lycoming Silica Sand, Horseheads, NY and retired as superintendent. In addition to Donna, Pete is survived by his siblings, William (Patty) Thomas, Carolyn (John) Bowman and Marlene (Larry) Gerow; in-laws, Joseph (Nancy) VanZile; Ruth (Robert) Diehr, and Mary (Gary) McConnell; nieces, nephews and cherished family friends. In addition to his parents, Pete was predeceased by his brother, Lawrence Thomas,; and sister, Ella Ames. Family and friends will be received at Caywood's Funeral Home & Gardens, 1126 Broadway Elmira/Southport, NY 14904 on Tuesday, November 11, 2025 between the hours of 4-6 p.m. Funeral services will follow at 6:15 p.m. Burial will take place in Fitzsimmons Cemetery, Southport, NY at the family's convenience.
