Robert Earl “Smokey” Thompson, Sr., 88, passed away on Wednesday, August 30, 2023. He was born in Durham County and was the son of the late Offie Hugh and Maggie Nellie Thomas Thompson.
Smokey was a member of Peoples Memorial Christian Church and was formerly employed at UNC Hospitals. He loved spending time with family and friends at his place at the lake. Smokey also enjoyed tinkering with mechanical things and doing renovation, repair and construction projects.
He is survived by his children, Robin Mills (Albert), Robert “Bob” Thompson, Jr. (Elizabeth “Liz”), Michelle Killian (Don); grandchildren, Bryan Mills (Emily), Patrick Mills (Catherine), Shelley Stallings, Laura Saulter (Matt); six great grandchildren; special sister, Sandra Watson and several other extended family members.
A service to celebrate his life will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, September 30, 2023 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. John Shields. The family will receive friends following the service.
