Robert (Bob) Trimble was born in Paterson, NJ on November 29, 1934, and joined the Lord surrounded by his family on August 5, 2025. He was the son of Ada Francis Bacon Trimble and John Cless Trimble of Ridgewood, NJ. Bob is survived by his wife of 65 years Gail (Bunny) Ann Downing Trimble; daughters Sheila Finn (Kevin), Laura Green (Tim), Cindy Lowe (Ross), Meredith Mentzer (Tim); brother John and wife Linda; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Retired LTC Jack Downing Ph.D. and wife Margie, Retired Col. Charles Thomas and wife Sally. Bob was the beloved grandpa to his grandchildren Matthew, Katelyn and husband Zack, Ross, Jordan, Madison, Brittany, Carson, Braden, Kylie and Jake.
Bob graduated from Ridgewood High School in 1952. He attended Amherst University, was a member of the Delta Upsilon fraternity, in the Air Force ROTC program, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science in 1956. Bob went directly into the Air Force and at Harlingen AFB, completed basic and flight navigation training. Bob served three years active duty in the Air Force, including an assignment to Evreux-Fauville Airbase, France. As a 2nd Lieutenant, he served in the 322nd division as a navigator on C-130A 'Hercules' aircraft in Europe.
France is where Bob met Bunny. Bunny's father was stationed in France with the family. After a short engagement and a French "two-step" (a Justice of the Peace ceremony followed three days later by a church wedding), they were married on October 3, 1959.
Bob was honorably discharged as a Captain from the Air Force Reserves in 1967. His love of airplanes never abated, and he spent years volunteering at the Frontiers of Flight Museum at Love Field with other retired veterans.
Bob transitioned from active duty to reserves in October 1959. He started a long and successful banking career with Citibank culminating with his promotion to President of Citibank Central. Over the next 20 years, they bounced around the east coast, living in 7 different cities. In 1979, Bob was transferred to Dallas, and that became their home for many years. After a 34-year career with Citibank, Bob worked at other banks that included moves to Albuquerque, Miami, and Houston. Bob and Bunny moved back to Carrollton in 2005 to be closer to family.
Throughout his career, in addition to raising his family, Bob found fulfillment in civic and church volunteer positions. These included board memberships and senior financial advisory positions with Girls Scouts, Salvation Army, Red Cross, the United Way, and the Service Corp of Retired Executives (SCORE). At The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, he was a 40-year member, served on the Vestry, was a Senior Warden, President of the School Board, member and frequent host of the Couples Club, attended many church groups, functions and charity gatherings, and was a Choir member. He was always ready to give his financial and business acumen to the Church and community, cherished the social and Christian life at Good Shepherd, and never lost sight of God, his brothers in Christ or his family.
With a wife and four daughters, Bob would say he was the "majority of one". He actively participated in their lives and the lives of ten grandchildren where Bob and Bunny found joy in supporting their family's many passions. Their schedules were filled with athletic and extracurricular events and fund raising for the kids to include games, competitions and performances of all kinds. Above all, Bob's pride and love for his children and grandchildren was unwavering.
With a love of the beach, Bob and Bunny bought a house on Bolivar Peninsula. They started a family tradition of summer gatherings on the Gulf Coast. After Hurricane Ike took the house in 2008, Bob continued the tradition and found houses to rent on Bolivar and Galveston. The memories and traditions he and Bunny created will last lifetimes.
Bob and Bunny raised four daughters, and his biggest legacy is the family he and Bunny created – one filled with love, memories, faith, laughter and support. Each of their daughters reflect their father in many ways, and each have built families that emulate the family they grew up in.
A service is planned for Saturday, September 6 at 11 a.m. at The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd located at 11122 Midway Rd., Dallas, TX, 75229, followed immediately by a celebration of life reception in the Parish Hall.
We commend Bob to the mercies of God and pray that perpetual light shines upon him.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Good Shepherd Episcopal or to the SPCA.
