Robert Troy Obituary

TROY, Robert "Bob"

Howard

December 28, 1941 –

November 17, 2025

Bob was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania to Saul and Shirley Troy. He attended Kingston High School before studying Eastern European history at Syracuse University. He was awarded a Fulbright scholarship to study in Berlin and earned a master's degree in economics at Rutgers University. In Atlanta, with a teaching position at Georgia Tech and a job at VISTA, he became involved in the Civil Rights movement and the Black-Jewish Coalition. He began to invest in Atlanta real estate, which eventually became his career. In the late 1980s he met his wife, Virginia. They married in 1990, and their son, Adam was born the next year. Virginia's job as a professor of art history at Berry College brought the family to Rome, Georgia.

Bob was active in his community. He enjoyed playing Santa on Christmas at local hospitals. He was on the board of the Fairview-Brown Rosenwald School renovation project and was a past president of Rodeph Sholom Synagogue. His friends and family valued his humor, unconditional love, intelligence, and zest for life.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Joseph; uncles Leo and Wilbur; aunt Rosabell and uncles Howard and Benjamin. He is survived by Virginia; Adam; a nephew and niece; and many dear cousins.

A memorial will take place on Sunday, February 22, 2026, 2:30 PM, at Rodeph Sholom Synagogue, 406 E 1st Street, Rome, Georgia. Donations graciously accepted. P.O. Box 425 Rome, Georgia 30162-0425 or https://rodephsholomrome.org/donate/
