LEWISTON-Robert P. "Bob" Verreault, aged 86, passed away peacefully at his home in
Lewiston, Maine, on December 5, 2025, after a brief illness. Born on March 20, 1939, in the same state that he would call home his entire life, Bob was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Bob's journey through life was marked by service, dedication, and a love for the great outdoors.
Bob was a proud graduate of Lewiston High School and made history as a member of Maine's first CMTVI graduate class to become an Emergency Medical Technician. His commitment to serving others was evident in his professional life; he served with distinction as an Orthopedic & Surgical Technician at St. Mary's Hospital. Bob's dedication to public service continued as he served as an Androscoggin County Deputy Sheriff, a role in which he protected and connected with his community for 10 years.
His entrepreneurial spirit led him to become the owner and operator of "Bob's Pine Grove Restaurant," a local gathering place that reflected his love for good food, drink and company. Bob's sense of duty extended beyond his civilian life as he honorably served his country in the U.S. Army. He completed his basic training at Fort Dix, New Jersey, and was assigned to the 24th Infantry Division. Stationed in Dachau, Germany, he worked in the dispensary before transferring to New Ulm, where he excelled as a combat medic. His expertise in first aid was not only a benefit to his fellow soldiers but also to the communities he served in both the Obstetrics & Orthopedic Departments. His time in the military left a lasting impact, and he was honored to be recognized as a US Army Veteran.
Bob's laughter could light up a room, and his absence will be felt deeply by his cherished daughters, Suzanne Verreault, Anne Dolloff, Kim Morton, and Donna Brewer. His love extended to his grandchildren Robbie, Connor, Zachary, Eve, and Emma, and his great-grandson, Arlo, whom he adored and often remarked was "such a good-looking boy."
An avid outdoorsman, Bob relished the time spent in nature. He had a talent for gardening, delighting in the blooms and harvests each season brought. His hobby of raising chickens brought him simple joy and he often shared his knowledge and love for these birds with his family and friends. The tranquility of fishing, the thrill of hunting, and the adventure of camping were activities that he not only loved but also used to bond with family and friends. His camp in East Andover was the backdrop for many fireside chats and card games, accompanied by music and laughter that echoed through the trees.
Bob's commitment to fellowship was evident in his lifelong membership with the American Legion Post #153 and over four decades with the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. His time in Europe during his Army service allowed him to explore new cultures and landscapes, enriching his life with experiences that he would fondly recount.
After his service in the Army, Bob took to the skies, learning to fly planes with a fervor that matched his love for the outdoors. Piloting various Cessna models and the PA-18 flying solo out of Wiscasset, he found freedom above the waves, observing the dance of sea life from a
vantage point few ever experience. His flights over the ocean were among his favorite experiences, as they allowed him to witness the majestic sea life from a unique perspective, combining his love for freedom, nature, and adventure.
Bob's life was marked by his unwavering commitment to his family, his country, and his community. His legacy is one of service, love, and strength. His story concluded in the warmth of his home, surrounded by the love of his family-a truly full circle to a life honorably and fully lived. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him but remembered for the laughter, wisdom, and his need to always be right. Bob's journey through life was as full and rich as the gardens he tended and the skies he soared. His memory will continue to inspire us, reminding us of the beauty in nature, the thrill of adventure, and the importance of family. Rest in peace, Bob; you are pain free now and your legacy will live on in the hearts of those you touched.
