Robert Charles Walter, Sr. of Binghamton, NY and Vero Beach, FL passed away on November 24, 2023. He was born February 3, 1932, in Oceanside, Long Island, NY, grew up in Freeport, LI and Clinton, CT.
He graduated from Clarkson University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and worked for Grumann Aircraft and Fairchild Camera before moving to Binghamton in 1965. Employed by Link as a Senior Engineer, he worked on the VAMP system to develop flight simulation programs for the Cobra attack helicopter, armored fight vehicles (AFVs) and other assorted government contracts.
He was an avid golfer, active with Boy Scouts, the Nimmonsburg Youth Association, taught Sunday School, chaired the Council on Christian Education and was an ordained Elder and Deacon in the First Presbyterian Church (now the United Presbyterian Church) of Binghamton where he has been a member for over 55 years.
He was predeceased by his parents Frederick and Mildred Wahle Walter, his sister Gale Miller, all of Clinton, CT; and his sister-in-law Bette Hill Williams.
He is survived by his beloved wife Nancy Williams Walter of 57 years; his children Robert Walter, Jr. (Lynna Reese) of Jacksonville, FL, and Kimberly Urich (Ben) of San Diego, CA; granddaughter Alivia Jane Urich; nieces Nancy Stanko (Sergio) and Victoria, Monroe, CT; nephews Scott Miller (Liz O'Connell) and Travis, Westbrook, CT; brother-in-law Stuart Larrabee Williams (Suzi Williamson) of Williamsburg, VA and Vero Beach, FL; nephews Stuart Williams, Jr. (Jacks), Thomas, Daniel and Anabel of London, UK; and Tuckley Williams (Liza), Ella, London, Clara and Larrabee of Santa Monica, CA.
He was a kind and gentle man of integrity who could fix anything and loved his family deeply. He will be greatly missed.
At his request, there will be no memorial service and his cremains will be interred in Vestal Hills Memorial Park at a later date.
