Robert Ward Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home - Middletown on Oct. 24, 2024.
Robert James Ward, age 60, passed into the presence of the Lord on October 22, 2024. Bob was born on April 16, 1964, in Haddonfield, New Jersey. He was the son of the late James Moore Ward III and Christine Yorke Ward. Following his mother's death, his father married Elizabeth S. Hogeland. Bob moved with his family to Wilmington, Delaware in 1973 where he attended and graduated from Wilmington Christian School.
Bob loved the outdoors and hiked many miles of the Appalachian Trail in his youth. He enjoyed camping with his family and visited many National Parks. He spent many days kayaking on the Susquehanna River.
Bob was an active Scouter and scout leader in the Boy Scouts of America. He volunteered for over ten years and held numerous leadership positions throughout his service including Cubmaster, Scoutmaster, and Camp Committee Chair. Bob completed Wood Badge, an advanced national leadership training course available only to professional scouters and scout leaders. He returned in the following years to the training program as staff. He was very proud when his son Dakota earned the rank of Eagle Scout.
Those who knew Bob remember him in wild tie-dyed tee shirts or those bearing obscure jokes and references. His wit and sarcasm were coupled with a big jolly smile and sense of sincerity that often-brought unintentional laughter to those around him. Despite his generally quiet and personal demeanor, those who had the good fortune of knowing him know his heart was pure. His sense of humor was truly one of a kind.
Bob professed his faith in Christ as Savior, and he is now healed and enjoying Eternal life. He claimed the promise of Scripture, knowing God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
Bob is survived by his son, Dakota J. Ward, and parents, Charles and Elizabeth Pope. He will be loved, remembered, and missed dearly.
Services will be private. We invite friends to share a memory of Bob on this page. If you care to leave contact information, his family would be happy to reach out to you.
