Robert Whitman, 85, of Greeley, died on November 14, 2009 at NCMC. He was born July 29, 1924 in Denver, CO to Claude & Mayme (Grout) Whitman. He was raised in Denver where he graduated from Denver West High School. He was a Colonel in the ROTC program in his senior year and also attended Aggies in Fort Collins – now CSU, for a year before he enlisted in the Ski Troop. He ended up being selected for the Air Force in 1943 and served on B-24’s in Italy. Robert married Martha Meyer on June 7, 1945 at the Presbyterian Church in Denver. He was discharged in November 1945. He attended Denver University and received his BS and Masters degree in Education. In 1948, he was a teacher and principal in Monte Vista and Center, CO. He was principal and Executive Director of Instruction and Curriculum for 28 years in Littleton, CO. He also was Educator of the Year of the Colorado Association of Executives. He retired in 1980. Mr. Whitman served on many committees and various community organizations. He was president of Littleton Lions Club and has been a Mason for over 50 years. He moved to Greeley in 1980, worked for Bittersweet Hardware Store and Otis Bros Men Shop for several years. He enjoyed square dancing, bowling, skiing and traveling. Survivors include his wife Marty, daughter Pamela, and grandson Jon Exner and his wife Stephanie, granddaughter Jennifer Williams and husband Chris, and great-grandson Keagan Williams. He was preceded in death by his parents. Graveside services at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Sunset Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the American Cancer Society or Diabetes Association in care of Allnutt, 702 13th St., Greeley, CO 80631.

Visiting their house in Littleton as a child, playing on the piano (even though I didn't really play) in the basement and then ending up living near Bob & Marty in Greeley will always be fond family memories for me. God bless and grant you peace & understanding Marty and Pam. Love, Doug
