Robert W. "Bob" Williams of Hanover, passed away on January 8th at South Shore Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was 85.
Bob was born on June 21, 1938 to the late Leo F. and Gertrude (O'Brien) Williams, and was raised in Milton. After graduating from high school, he followed in his father's footsteps and began working for New England Telephone (now Verizon), his career there spanning 4 decades before retiring in 1995.
Bob was the beloved husband of Patricia M. Williams-they would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this October; loving father to Moira McAuley and her husband Joe of Hanover; Jennifer Babin of Hanover; and Brian Williams of Hanover; proud grandfather (affectionately known as Bubba) to his 5 grandchildren; Ryan, Cameron and Katherine McAuley and Gavin and Aidan Quirk, all of Hanover; and his sister-in-law Kathleen Howland and her husband Ken of South Dartmouth. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Bob was the brother of the late Leo F. Williams Jr. and the late Mary Lou Roth.
Bob had a quick wit and a hilarious sense of humor. He enjoyed all of what New England had to offer, with particular fondness for vacations in Maine and in the White Mountains of New Hampshire; trips to the Cape and taking the ferry to the islands were also high on his list of favorites. Bob wasn't a beach person, but he loved the ocean, and all things nautical. Eating out was a favorite pastime-whether it was trying a new place or visiting an old favorite, he was happy to go. He was a devoted fan of the New England Patriots, only missing 1 game in 60+ years; the Boston Celtics were a close 2nd. He enjoyed country music (classic only!); he was also fond of Irish music, and was known to listen to the 'Irish Saturdays Soundtrack' on WROL back in the day. He was an avid reader, with Stephen King being his absolute favorite. Bob was a true animal lover, and owned many, many beloved pets over the years.
Bob was a very kind and caring man, a devoted family man who will be missed beyond words. To know him was to love him, and we most certainly did.
All services will be private.
