Robert B. Witherow

Mr. Robert B. Witherow of Port Jervis, NY died Saturday, August 27, 2022 at home with his family by his side. He was 79.
He was born July 6, 1943 in Coaldale, PA the son of the late William Henry Witherow and the late Margaret Mary McLaughlin Witherow.
Robert married Dianna C. Walt 52 years ago on August 22, 1970 in St. Joseph s R.C. Church in Matamoras, PA.
He was a member of St. Mary s R.C. Church in Port Jervis.
Bob was a proud educator serving the Port Jervis School District for his entire career of 38 years. He started as a History Teacher in the Middle School and then became a History Teacher at the High School. Bob then earned an Administrative Degree and became the Principal of the Middle School and then the Assistant Principal of the High School. He finished his education career in administration as the Superintendent of Schools. He was also a beloved football coach for the Port Jervis Raiders from 1967-1983 and later coached his sons on the Pop Warner Packers.
On October 11, 2000 Bob was awarded the Excellence in Administration Award from the MHSSC. The City of Port Jervis Mayor Ross Decker proclaimed Robert Witherow Day on June 14, 2003.
A family statement read: Dad was a dedicated coach and educator who impacted countless lives of his students, athletes, and most of all his family. He cherished the relationships with his colleagues and friends and had immense love for the Port Jervis Community. He was a devout Catholic who was sustained and nourished by his faith. He enjoyed camping with his family at Promised Land State Park and tailgating with his family while rooting for the Penn State Nittany Lions. We will forever cherish his memory.

Grandchildren: Sarah Christofides, Haley Christofides, Robert R. Witherow, Josephine Witherow, Joshua Witherow and Emma Witherow
Sister-in-law: Linda Quick of Sparrow Bush, NY

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 with a 9:00 am prayer at the funeral home followed by a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary's R.C. Church, 46 Ball St., Port Jervis, NY with Rev. Fr. Anthony Giacona officiating.
Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Port Jervis, NY.
