AIKEN, SC – Aiken, SC - Robert Wayne Wunder, age 71, peacefully departed this life on September 27, 2024. Born on October 31, 1952, in Polk County, Florida, Robert was the beloved son of the late Clarence Eugene Wunder and Annie Lucille Wunder.
Robert spent more than 30 years in Aiken, South Carolina, where he built a fulfilling life and career. He retired as a software engineer from the Savannah River Site, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and dedication. Known for his sharp wit and comedic timing, Robert found joy in the simple pleasures of life - whether tending to his yard, savoring meals at local eateries, or staying informed with his regular viewing of Fox News. A gun enthusiast, he found excitement and camaraderie in his passion. He will be remembered for how great of a man he was and that he was always looking out for others.
Robert is lovingly remembered by his devoted companion, Katrina Gartrell, who stood by his side through thick and thin, and his cherished dogs, Miss Lilly and Miss Opal, who were his faithful companions.
As we remember Robert's life and impact, we invite friends and family to join us in celebrating his legacy. A Celebration of Life for Robert will take place on Sunday, October 5, 2024 at 1:00pm in the George Funeral Home Historic Downtown Chapel with Dr. Chris Masters officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations in Robert's memory to a charity of your choosing, reflecting his spirit of generosity and kindness. Robert will be dearly missed and forever held in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

I'm sorry to hear about Robert passing away too young. I'd been looking for him and did not find him on Facebook, but when I saw photo in his obituary, I saw it was the Bob Wunder I knew. We worked together in Northern England in 1980. He had a beautiful old house along the main road to work and let me stay there while I was looking for my own place. (I drove past it this September when I returned to the area as a tourist.) I re-paid the favor by having him stay at my house in Santa Clara while we both were terminating from our employer. We took a trip to Majorca and to London where we saw Al Stewart in concert and after concert had to break in to friend's mother's garden house in Surrey as she was out of the country and did not get the message we were coming.

Robert and I worked together at SRS for many years. He was always so kind, patient and so creative. He had a gentle soul and I always loved our visits.
