Robert Yurkowski, 93, born May 10, 1931, died October 9, 2024, in Hoffman Estates, Illinois.
Robert, a retired tool and die maker and father of two daughters, is preceded in death by his parents Stephen and Josephine Yurkowski.
Robert was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Robert grew up on the northwest side of Chicago and from the time he was very young, he built radio-controlled model airplanes entering them in numerous competitions winning over 100 first place trophies. Robert graduated from Taft High School in June 1949 and excelled in mathematics with a strong mechanical inclination, leading him to a life-long career in tool and die making. Robert served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954, during part of the Korean War, and the United States Army Standby Reserve from 1954 to 1960.
Robert and his late wife Dolores generously exposed their daughters to music, dance and ice skating training as well as vacations throughout the U.S. during the early years. Robert and Dolores met at the ballroom at the Edgewater Beach Hotel in Chicago before they were married in 1956 and were skilled ballroom dancers who continued to hone their dancing skills in ballrooms around Chicago for sixty years.
Robert is survived by his daughters Linda Kasper (Michael) Lewandowski of Lake Forest and Sharon (late Joseph) Krajewski of Schaumburg. Robert was the grandfather of Nicole (John) Anderson, Valerie (late Joseph) Gudella and Salvatore (Abbie) Canale, as well as great grandchildren Bree and Russell Anderson, Audrey and Jack Gudella and Amelia and Maximillian Canale.
Visitation will be held Monday, October 14, 2024, at Matz Mt. Prospect Funeral Chapel, 410 E. Rand Road, Mount Prospect, Illinois from 11:00 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Entombment with Military Honors will follow at Maryhill Cemetery, Niles, Illinois.
