Robert Gail Zahller, age 78, born December 25, 1945 in Columbus, OH, passed away November 26, 2024. He was preceded in death by father, Russell Zahller; mother, Ruth (Summey) Zahller; aunt, Carrie Avonelle Summey; father-in-law, Carl Washburn; mother-in-law, Lovia Washburn; and sister-in-law, Zoe Washburn. Bob is survived by wife of 55 years, Kathy Lynn (Washburn) Zahller; daughters, Christine (Matt) Thompson and Carolyn (Joe) Frazer; granddaughters, Emma, Amy, and Audra Thompson; grandsons, Joe and Jonathan Frazer.
Bob was a graduate of The Ohio State University (undergrad and post grad) and Xavier University (master's program). He retired from Columbus Public Schools after 30 years, where he was a teacher, social worker, coach, athletic director, and school administrator. Bob also worked at Battelle Darby Metro Park where he was a part time park ranger for 15 years.
He enjoyed traveling the country and the world with his wife, and high school students through People to People Student Ambassador Program. Bob liked learning about other cultures, history, and people. He was an avid researcher of genealogy that greatly contributed to information and primary documents on Ancestry.com. Bob participated in Civil War reenactments with the Cold Stream Guard.
Bob and his wife loved to work in their garden and their three-acre yard. They enjoyed raising St. Bernard's together. Above all else he enjoyed spending time with and caring for his family.
Visitation Wednesday, December 4, 2024 from 11am until the time of Funeral Service at 12pm at Newcomer, SW Chapel, 3393 Broadway, Grove City, OH. Interment to follow at Galloway Cemetery, Galloway, OH.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association in his memory.
