Roberta Anne Breen, 86, of Norwell, passed peacefully after a long illness on 29 September 2024 with her loving husband, Robert, and their only child, Jeffrey of Hingham, by her side. She was born in Boston on 1 June 1938, lived in Braintree throughout her school years, and moved to Norwell when she was married. Roberta was an executive secretary at the Bethlehem Steel Shipyard in Quincy, working on the Long Beach Nuclear Cruiser and Bainbridge Nuclear Frigate Programs and later in a similar position at the Hazeltine Corporation in Braintree. Roberta was a quiet and unassuming person who loved to cook and enjoyed reading, shopping, arts and crafts, sewing, and was a good and loyal friend. She also enjoyed working as a teachers aide/volunteer for several years at Derby Academy in Hingham. Roberta loved to travel and she, Bob, and her family took many memorable trips over the years.
Roberta was the devoted wife of Bob, whom she married in 1965 and the loving mother of Jeffrey of Hingham. Bob and Roberta met in 1960 and she stood by him as he finished the job of raising his 4 siblings due to the too early passings of their mother and father. She was the beloved daughter of the late Mary (Tracy) Oliver and Frederick J. Oliver, Sr., sister of Patricia Johnson Sands and of her brother Frederick Oliver Jr. She leaves three loving grandchildren, Patricia, Elizabeth and Jeffrey Breen, all of Hingham.
There will be no visiting hours, but a mass will be celebrated in her honor on the morning of Friday, 4 October at 9 o'clock at the Our Lady of the Angels Church (St. Mary's) in Hanover. A private burial will then take place at the First Parish Cemetery in Norwell. A celebration of life will be scheduled and announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Roberta's name to the NVNA and Hospice Charitable Fund.
