Roberta E. Garber was born September 21,1931 in Detroit, Michigan, to Karol and Mary (Huczko) Barta. She was the youngest of nine children and a proud fraternal twin. She passed away peacefully in January, leaving behind a legacy of strength, service, and deep devotion to her family and community.
She graduated from Denby High School, where she was voted Most Athletic by her senior class. A gifted and determined athlete, she excelled in tennis, field hockey, and basketball-qualities that reflected her competitive spirit and teamwork throughout life.
Following high school, she enlisted in the United States Air Force, where she honorably served for four years and was discharged as an Airman First Class. After her military service, she earned her Insurance Agent License and went on to build a successful career in the insurance industry. She worked with several respected agencies, including Travelers, Kellam & Eaton, Butler Hartsall, and JSC Agencies. She retired in 2015 at the age of 84.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 36 years, Cecil Erskin Garber, Navy Pilot.
She is survived by her loving children, Stephanie Jones (Neal), Julie Monahan, Kimberlie Rimer, Lorrie Williford (Joey), Cecil Erskin Garber III (Theresa) as well as 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her immense pride and joy.
Deeply committed to her community, she volunteered as a coach for Great Neck Recreation sports teams and was an active member of the Navy Bowling League. In her free time, she enjoyed sewing, reading, gardening, and enthusiastically following the sports activities of her children and grandchildren. A lifelong Detroit sports fan, she remained devoted to her favorite hometown teams.
She will be remembered for her discipline, generosity, resilience, and unwavering love for her family.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Aimee S. and the Hospice Team from Westminster Canterbury at Home for their compassionate care and support.
