Roberta Jeanne Lewis, age 88, of Mishawaka, passed away on November 14, 2025. She was born on February 24, 1937, in Berrien Springs, Michigan, to the late George and Cleora Marie (Sherwood) Erlandson. Roberta graduated from South Bend Central High School, and after graduation, she met Jack Lewis at the South Bend Art Center. The two married in September of 1960 and shared a life together until Jack’s passing in 2000.
Roberta is survived by her son, Robin J. (Tamara) Lewis, along with her niece, Carla (Steve) Hartz, and nephews Robert (Cindy) Rasmussen and Michael Rasmussen. She was preceded in death by her brother, Arvid Erlandson, and sister, Shirley Rasmussen.
There will be no formal services. Roberta and Jack will be laid to rest together at a later date. Cruz Family Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Osceola is assisting the family.
Roberta worked for more than 25 years as a ward secretary at St. Joseph Hospital in South Bend, where she was well-loved by both patients and staff. She enjoyed driving, often a bit faster than the speed limit, and somehow always seemed to leave traffic stops with just a warning. She especially loved driving to Florida with her brother and sister, and when she and Jack traveled, they preferred taking the scenic routes so they could explore small towns and enjoy meals at local diners.
Creativity came naturally to Roberta. She enjoyed painting and making unique wreaths for family and friends. She loved baking fresh bread, cooking memorable meals, and caring for animals. She was generous with her time and attention, always putting the needs of others ahead of her own. Roberta was also an avid reader, especially fond of mysteries and British novels.
The Lewis family extends their heartfelt thanks to Roberta’s neighbors, Rick and Patti, the staff at Silver Birch of Mishawaka, and the team at Caring Cove Hospice for their kind and compassionate care.
