Roberta F. McBirney, 69, of Madison passed away on July 28, 2025, at Unity Point – Meriter.

Roberta was a kind and compassionate person. She is described by those that loved her as a ray of sunshine. She was always singing cheerful songs and offering kind words to those around her. Some of her favorites were church hymns, On Wisconsin, and John Denver songs. She absolutely loved Wisconsin and was an avid fan of all things Bucky Badger.

Roberta first began being supported by what would become Options in Community Living in 1977 in Madison, WI, and was one of the original people that they supported. Roberta was able to live a full life of her own choosing in her own apartment with the help of a strong support network. Over the decades, Roberta lived with different roommates and near neighbors that she cherished deeply. Sharon McCarthy spent the last 9 years as Roberta's roommate and was a dear friend. Roberta was a lover of animals and had many cat companions over the years. She was a very proud cat-mom.

Roberta is survived by her brother, Bruce McBirney, her sister, Terri Begas, and many nieces, grandnieces, nephews, and grandnephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and a younger brother, Robert McBirney.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Options in Community Living, 551 Grand Oak Trail, Madison, Wisconsin 53714, https://optionsmadison.com/contribute.
