On March 5, 1945 she began her life in Columbia, South Carolina. From a young age she was fondly known as "Bobbie". She had a smile which encompassed her whole face, it was a trait that everyone noticed.
While spending time at Grandma and Grandpa Sam's (Samuelson), Grandpa Sam introduced her to classical novels which peaked a life-long love of reading. One of her favorite things to do while visiting was sitting in the treehouse Grandpa Sam built for her reading books, eating apples, and being spoiled with gingerbread cookies
.
As she grew up, she and her siblings played on the church softball team. Uncle Wayne taught her how to bat and due to her strong throwing arm, she played center field. Another sport which she excelled was swimming. She perfected her swimming and diving skills as she was going to be the next "Esther Williams!".
Other activities she enjoyed was the theater. She would write plays and organize the neighborhood kids to perform them in the backyard. The theater would continue to be a part of her life into high school and through college.
Bobbie graduated from Alamo heights High School in San Antonio, Texas and went to Southwest Texas State University on music scholarship. She had a soprano's voice and used it to perform in several musicals, one which included "Bye, Bye Birdie". Her voice was appreciated in several operas, including "The Marriage of Figaro".
After graduating from Southwest Texas State University with a degree in education, she began her teaching career in North East Independent School District (NEISD). Bobbie taught in an elementary school and her love of reading spilled over to her students. Her favorite subject was of course reading and the innovative technique of having the students write their own books was used.
As an active member of King of Kings Lutheran Church, Bobbie participated as a soloist at Sunday Services as well as encouraged church members by writing letters to homebound.
Bobbie had numerous hobbies, a few were writing poetry, crafting jewelry, and the restoration of antiques. She particularly enjoyed watching musicals stage shows and operas. Summer vacations were enjoyed in a small town atmosphere and cool climate which would be found in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
Bobbie's laughter, quick wit, love of music and big heart will be greatly missed by family and friends.
