Rodger Meyer Obituary
Rodger A. Meyer, age 71, of Napoleon, Ohio, passed away on Monday, Jan. 19, 2026, at CHP Inpatient Hospice in Defiance, Ohio.
He was born on Sept. 16, 1954, in Napoleon, Ohio, to the late Edward and Lorina (Wachtmann) Meyer.
At the age of 16, Rodger suffered a severe neck injury that left him paralyzed. Through pure determination and countless hours of strenuous therapy, he defied the odds and proudly walked across the stage at his graduation from Liberty Center High School.
Following graduation, Rodger began his career with Kahrs Tractor Sales in Wauseon, where he worked for over 40 years before retiring in 2019. Throughout his life and career, Rodger never once complained about his disability, facing every challenge with perseverance.
Rodger was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Wauseon, where he served as church secretary and was an active member of the dartball team and the Lutheran Laymen's League. He also enjoyed following SPL sports, the Liberty Center Tigers, and the Cleveland Indians games on the radio.
Rodger is survived by uncles and aunts, Melvin (Margaret) Wachtmann, Mildred Gerken, Gerri Wachtmann and Norm (Lois) Wachtmann; first cousins, Marna Lou Bechtol, Robert Meyer, Linda, Vernon, David, Lynn, Lisa, Doug, Sue, Tim, Brent, Tom, Mike, David, Mark, Janet, Bruce, Cindy, Bob, Teresa and Kim; and his dedicated caregiver, Beverly Holloway.
He was preceded in death by his parents; uncles and aunts, Rudolph (Lucille) Meyer, Harold (Emma) Wachtmann, Arther Wachtmann, Ray (Marge) Wachtman, Ronald Wachtmann; and cousin, Larry Meyer; and in-laws, Jack Bechtol and Sue Meyer.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 23, 2026, at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Wauseon, Ohio. Visitation will take place at the church from noon until the time of the service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke Lutheran Church or The Lutheran Hour Ministries.
