It is with a heavy heart that we announce that Rodger Odell Moore, age 80, of Brierfield, Alabama, passed away on April 8, 2025. Born on February 19, 1945, he attended Montevallo High School and graduated from Bibb County High School in 1963. After graduation Rodger joined the U.S. Air Force and served his country honorably in Vietnam, The Philippines, Germany, and numerous stateside assignments for 20 years. He attained the rank of Tech Sergeant while serving in the U.S. Air Force. During Rodger's military career, he was a Ground Radio Operations Supervisor, an Administration Technician, and a Service Specialist. Rodger was awarded with the Air Force Commendation Medal with Two Devices, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with Five Devices, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with Three Devices, NCO Professional Military Education Ribbon, Air Force Longevity Service Award with Four Devices, National Defense Service Metal with Device, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Philippine Presential Unit Citation. After retiring from the U.S. Air Force, Rodger continued his service to his country by working for and retiring from the United States Postal Service after 23 years of civil service. Rodger gave more than half of his life in service to his country.
Rodger was a devoted husband to Carolyn and a loving Gramps to his grand and great-grandchildren. Rodger and Carolyn were not just husband and wife, but the loves of each other's lives. They were soulmates and brought immeasurable joy and happiness to each other; high school sweethearts reunited by fate in 2019. He will be forever remembered for his kindness, compassion, and gentle heart. He was truly one of a kind.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Foster Moore; step-daughters, Judith Perry and Christina Perry (Walt) Skrobak; step-grandchildren, Madison (Trey) Fondren, Blair Skrobak, and Sloan Skrobak; and step-great-grandchildren, Jacob Fondren, Noah Fondren, and Molly Fondren; nephew, Edward (Glenda) Moore; and niece, Tina Moore (Richard) Boles; great-niece, Meagan (Nick) Shelton; and great-nephew, Tyler Boles; and cousin, Gail Murrell.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Annie Ruth Pitcock and Edward Conley Moore; brother, Edward M. Moore; and first wife, Carol Ann Moore.
Rodger enjoyed woodworking, traveling, spending time outdoors, and camping with his friends.
A committal service will be held on Thursday, April 17, 2025 at 11:00 am at the Alabama National Cemetery.
