Rodger Dean Unger

Rodger Dean Unger, age 74, of Grovetown, Georgia, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Zanesville, Ohio on March 29, 1951, Rodger was the son of the late Charles Frances Unger and Pauline Virginia Unger. He grew up with a strong sense of humor, a humble heart, and a love for making others smile – traits that stayed with him all his life.

While living in Zanesville, Rodger met his love, Cheryl, who was living just across the river in West Virginia. Their love spanned time, states, and a lifetime of laughter. Together, they built a bountiful life, eventually moving to Georgia to be closer to their children, grandchildren, and eventually, their great grandchildren, who brought Rodger so much pride and joy.

Rodger worked as a transportation supervisor at Fort Frye High School in Beverly, Ohio and taught driver's education. Teaching came naturally to him, and he made sure each of his grandchildren learned to drive under his careful instruction, though there were probably a few close calls in the passenger seat.

Rodger never met a stranger. He had a nickname for everyone, a laugh that could fill a room, and a joke ready at a moment's notice. To know Rodger was to feel at ease; he had a way of making people feel seen, heard, and cared for. His legacy is one of kindness, humor, and a deep love for his family.

Rodger Unger is survived by his wife, Cheryl Unger and his daughters, Amber Davidson (John), Tammy Bailey-Needy (Joyce), Kimberly Cowman (Russell), and Sasha Smith (Daniel). Rodger is also survived by his grandchildren, Jasmine Sams, Tonea Houser, Anthony Houser,Kase Davidson, Ryan Bailey (Alexandra), Alisse Bailey, Zachary Cowman, Mckenzie Cowman, Lindsey Bungard (Derek), and Jessica Jones (Aaron) and several great grandchildren.

Rodger Unger is preceded in passing by his parents, Charles Frances Unger and Pauline Virginia Unger.
