Rodney L. Johnson, 69, of Monmouth, IL, passed away at 11:50 a.m., Monday, April 15, 2024, at his home.
He was born on January 23, 1955, in Monmouth, IL, the son of Roy Lee, Sr. and Lea Estelyn (Gittings) Johnson. Rod was raised and educated in Monmouth and graduated from Monmouth High School in 1973.
Rod married Lois K. Shaver on July 13, 1973, in Monmouth, IL and she survives.
Rod started working in high school training and shoeing horses. He then worked at Giant Foods in Monmouth as a meat trimmer for a few years. Rod then worked at Wells Pet Food in Monmouth along with Wilson Foods in Monmouth. He later worked at Henry C. Hill Correctional Center in Galesburg for 26 years until his retirement. Rod was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed gardening, cook outs with his family, and playing craps. Rod was always there to lend a helping hand to family & friends. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Surviving Rod is his wife, Lois K. Johnson of Monmouth, IL; his children, Tonya (Don) Stokes of Stronghurst, IL, Sandra (Kevin) Brown of Keithsburg, IL, Tabitha (Derek) Herren of Galesburg, IL; his grandchildren, Hunter Johnson of Stronghurst, IL, Seth Mize of Burlington, IA, PFC Patrick (Emmy) Johnson serving in Germany, Mikayla (James Anderson) Johnson of Keithsburg, IL, Keegan Herren of Galesburg, IL, Peyton Herren of Galesburg, IL, Bayley Herren of Galesburg, IL; his great grandchildren, Nevaeh, Kaidon, Ryder, Riven, Tiffany, James, Brecklyn, Ryleigh, and two on the way. Also surviving are his brothers, Roy L. (Jami) Johnson, Roger (Joy) Johnson both of Monmouth, IL, Robin (Sue) Johnson of Dunlap, IL; his sister, Penny (Jeff) Palmer of Galesburg, IL; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Dorothy A. “Dottie” (Butch) Henry.
Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 20, 2024, at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL. Interment will be in Warren County Memorial Park, Monmouth, IL. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m., Friday, April 19, 2024, at the Funeral Home. Memorials can be made to the American Heart Association, Stop Soldier Suicide, or the Asperger/Autism Network.
