McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory - MonmouthOn August 3, 2025, Dan Shoemaker passed peacefully into God’s hands at the age of 72.
Dan was born on November 18, 1952, to Pauline and Warren Shoemaker. He grew up in a modest home just outside Monmouth, Illinois, and attended the Warren school district. His early life was deeply rooted in faith, with his family being active members of Fairview Methodist Church.
Dan married Mary Lynn Shoemaker, with whom he shared three children. He passed on his love for the outdoors and taught his children how to fish, hunt, stay active, and think independently. Later in life Dan enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and delighted in sharing imaginative tales with all of them.
Dan spent many years working in the Abingdon School District, where he was known for his strong work ethic and dedication to supporting his family. In his fifties, he relocated to Davenport, Iowa, and began working the third shift as a mule mechanic at Tyson Foods in Morning Sun. He took pride in the mechanical challenges of the job and the sense of purpose it brought him. Outside of work, Dan enjoyed visiting with family and spending time with his loyal dog, Wylie.
Dan is survived by children, Matthew (Randi) Shoemaker of York, PA, Ann (Fabian) Shoemaker of San Antonio, TX, and Mark (Kayla) Shoemaker of Pecatonica, IL; nine beloved grandchildren; his sisters, Dorothy (Chris) Gaines of Aurora, IL and Margaret (Sid) Vaughan of Monmouth; his brother, Scott Shoemaker of Monmouth and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
