Rodney Alton Tyson
September 8, 1966 – November 13, 2025
Rodney Alton Tyson was born on September 8, 1966, in Chatham County, North Carolina to the late Alton and Dorothy Tyson. From a young age, Rodney was known for his quiet strength, intelligence, and steady determination. He was an A-honor-roll student who especially loved math. Rodney graduated from Chatham Central High School in 1984 and later continued his education at North Carolina A&T State University, always working to better himself and build a stable future.
Rodney was a dedicated worker, a skilled driver with experience in transportation logistics and coordination. Some of his places of employment included Webster's Poultry, University of North Carolina (UNC) Chapel Hill, Coca Cola, and Chatham Transit Network, and most recently, Piedmont Health, where he continued his legacy of care, kindness, and dependability. Coworkers and passengers alike will remember his respect, humor, and gentle spirit. Rodney was a trusted and familiar face within the community, forming friendships that lasted throughout his life.
Outside of work, Rodney enjoyed the simple but meaningful parts of life-fishing, farming, hunting and scraping, with his twin brother, Ronnie, which he took pride in doing in his spare time. Their bond was strong and unbreakable, shaped by a lifetime of moving through the world side by side. He valued peace, family, and time spent outdoors.
Rodney was known by many nicknames throughout his life-Stretch, Uncle R, Old Eddie Cain, Uncle Pillar, and Median. Each name carried a special meaning, given to him by the people who loved him most. These nicknames reflected the many roles he played and the deep connections he built over the years.
Rodney also loved cheering for his favorite teams, UNC and the Carolina Panthers, and he enjoyed traveling across the country for WrestleMania. These experiences brought him joy, laughter, and memories he held close.
One of Rodney's greatest joys came with the birth of his first grandchild, Cameron. Sharing moments, lessons, and laughter with his grandson brought him happiness that lit up his heart. Though he has taken his rest, the love and memories he leaves behind continue in the hearts of those who knew him.
Rodney leaves behind one daughter, Kaitlyn Tyson; one son, Isaiah Monroe; one grandson, Cameron Tyson; his twin brother, Ronnie Tyson; three sisters, Kaye Tyson, Pamela Goldston, and Lynne Tyson; one sister-in-law, Gerri Tyson, as well as his nieces and nephews. He is reunited in Heaven with his loving parents, Dorothy and Alton Tyson; one daughter, Khadijah Chesney; three sisters, Gina Tyson, Ann Tyson, Annette Tyson, and one nephew, Maranto Williams.
Rodney will forever be remembered for his gentle presence, his dedication to his family, and the wisdom he often shared, especially one of his favorite reminders
"Always have money for a rainy day."
