It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Rodolphe Schomberg. He was lovingly known by his grandchildren as Grandpa Rudy. Rodolphe was a vibrant soul who brightened the lives of everyone he encountered. Born on July 9, 1942, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Rodolphe sailed through life with passion and purpose, ultimately finding his permanent home in New Jersey, from where he departed this world on February 4, 2025.
Rodolphe was known not just for his loving spirit but also for his strong convictions. He was a dedicated vegetarian who passionately advocated for a meat-free lifestyle. His compassion extended beyond his own dietary choices-if you ordered meat in his presence, he would lovingly put his foot down and ensure you understood his beliefs. His generosity and helpful nature were evident in every interaction he had, always ready to lend a hand or share a kind but honest word.
Professionally, Rodolphe made significant contributions as an electrician with the Newark Housing Authority, showcasing both his expertise and commitment to his trade. He later established his own business, RS Electrical Contracting, where he exemplified hard work and dedication, leaving a lasting legacy in his community. In addition to English, he spoke Spanish, French, and Haitian Creole fluently, which made it easy to communicate with his clients, friends, and colleagues.
During his life Rodolphe displayed an unwavering commitment to his beliefs as a Rosicrucian and a Mason. He had the honor of being named, 33rd Degree (Highest honor bestowed by his peers), Grand Inspector General, and Grand Master of the Masonic Grand Lodges in his region. His remarkable work ethic, and lively spirit resonated with those around him. His legacy of strength and passion will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. They will remember him not just as a loved one, but as someone who lived life authentically, with generosity and commitment.
Rodolphe was predeceased by his father Joseph Leo Schomberg, mother Andree Dorce, step mother Marcelle Conte (Mommy Boubout). His sister Claudette Martin, Guilene Schomberg, and Nadia Jean Schomberg. He held the memory of each dear to his heart.
Rodolphe navigated through life with two marriages; His first marriage to Marie Schomberg (Elsie) in 1971, which produced two wonderful sons, Marc R. Schomberg affectionately known as (Rama) and Plato J. Schomberg. He is also survived by his beautiful daughter, Skye Martin. His second marriage in 2002 to Roseann Schomberg brought him love and companionship. Although they did not have biological children together, he cherished his role as a stepfather to her children, Melinda Lopez-Calderon, Gualberto Lopez Jr, Peter Lopez, and Jennifer Rosales and is fondly remembered for the love, support, and wonderful experiences he provided throughout their lives.
