Roger Barker, 89, of Weatherford, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 17, 2025.
Born in Weatherford, Texas, to James and Ruth Barker, Roger spent his early years in Weatherford, where he was a proud graduate of Weatherford High School, playing center on the football team. He went on to attend The University of Texas at Austin, earning a Plan II degree and joining Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity, where he excelled in bridge tournaments and made great friendships.
A man of faith, he was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, serving on various boards of trustees. Later in life, he followed a calling to ministry, earning a Ph.D. in Pastoral Counseling from Brite Divinity School. He served as pastor to small congregations in Poolville, Texas, and South Fork, Colorado, and was a guest pastor at several other churches.
His professional life was marked by dedication and versatility. He began with the JCPenney Company, rising to the role of store and regional manager in Texas. He later became a manufacturers’ representative in gifts and housewares at the Dallas Trade Center, before moving into real estate development and property management.
Outside of work and ministry, he lived life with enthusiasm and joy. He was an avid sports fan, especially of Longhorn football, and loved skiing in Colorado and playing golf. He had a passion for travel, exploring the world with his wife Linda and with his parents. At home, he enjoyed movies, television, and any sporting event he could watch. He also cherished family traditions like playing dominos with his parents, aunts, and uncles. He was preceded in death by his wife Linda; his parents; and his son, Phillip.
He is survived by his children, Walt (Ouida), Alan (Ellen), and DeAnna Wilson (Keven); sister, Ruth Lynn Cotter; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 19, 2025, 4:00 p.m. at East Greenwood Cemetery, 500 E. Front St., Weatherford.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Weatherford Parker County Animal Shelter.
He will be remembered for his faith, his love of family and his zest for life.
