Roger David Barney, 76, of Creola, passed away Thursday, November 14, 2024, at his residence. He was born July 26, 1948, in Vinton County, Ohio, son of the late Andrew and Mildred Nickell Barney. Roger was married to Betty Nida Barney, who survives.
He retired from the City of Columbus at their Wastewater Treatment Plant and was a United States Army Veteran serving in the Vietnam War. Roger was awarded the CIB, Bronze Star, and Purple Heart with one Oak Leaf Cluster and a Vietnam service medal. He was a life member of the McArthur VFW Post #5299, Life member of the Disabled American Veterans of Jackson, Life Member of the American Legion of McArthur, Life Member of the Vietnam Veteran of America, Life member of the Military Order of Purple Hearts, Life Member of the Americal Division and was a member of the 1/1 Cav.
Roger is survived by his daughter, Tara (Brian) Mitchell; grandchildren, Zachary (Sylvee) Barney, Drake Barney, Dustin Cope, Madison (Gary) Barney, Abbigail Mitchell and Nathan Mitchell; great grandchildren, Remington Barney and Brayla VanSickle; brother, Marvin Barney; sisters, Darlene (Bob) Morris, Linda Hunt and Debbie (Paul) Stewart; sister-in-law, Naomi Barney and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Robin Barney and brother, Gary Barney.
Visitation will be held from 1 p.m.to 3p.m., Tuesday, November 19, 2024, in the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur. Immediately following the visitation at 3 p.m., military services will be conducted by the McArthur VFW Post #5299. Inurnment will be in held in Bell Cemetery at a later date.
