FORT JENNINGS
Roger W. Broecker, age 90, of Ft. Jennings passed away Saturday morning at VanCrest of Delphos with his loving family at his side.
He was born September 12, 1935 in Ft. Jennings to Henry and Lauretta (Ellerbrock) Broecker who preceded him in death. He married Alice (Fisher) Broecker on July 25, 1959 in Ottoville and she survives in Ft. Jennings.
Roger is also survived by his children, Laura (Gary) Shirkey and Todd (Gretchen) Broecker both of Columbus, six grandchildren Brandon Shirkey, Abigail (Craig) Casto, Cameron (Kenzie) Andrix) Broecker, Elizabeth, Andrew, and Alexander Broecker and 2 great grandchildren, Emersyn and Brady Casto. His two brothers, Paul (Jo) Broecker, and Jim (Jeanette) Broecker of Ft. Jennings, one sister, Betty (Rich) Miller of Ft. Jennings.
Roger was preceded in death by brothers, Don, Louis, and Charles Broecker and his sisters, Ruth Grote and Katie McGraw.
Roger was a veteran of the United States Army. While serving he had the honor to be part of the Old Guard at Arlington National Cemetery taking part in many ceremonies throughout the cemetery and was an honor guard for many dignitaries. He began working at the Ft. Jennings elevator in 1960, retiring after 33 years as the manager. He served on the village council for 32 years and was president for nine years. He truly loved his town and did all he could to make it better. He was known as a quiet man but, when he spoke people listened because they knew it was for the betterment of all. He was a volunteer fireman and served as Chief retiring after 34 years of service. He was a member of St. Jospeh Catholic Church and the American Legion #715. Roger loved working outside especially mowing the yard. Roger loved vacations with the family, following all the activities of his kids and now his grandkids. Most of all he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather to his family.
A funeral mass will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fr. Charles Obinwa officiating, burial to follow in St. Joseph Cemetery with military graveside rites by the Ft. Jennings American Legion.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, February 24, 2026 from 2:00-8:00 p.m. at Weber Funeral Home, 1840 East Fifth St. Delphos.
