EASTON----Roger B. Chassey, 90, formerly of Brockton and Easton, died March 17th at Willow Crossing in Mansfield after a long illness. Roger was the devoted husband of the late Melodye (Heath) Chassey for 53 years until her death in 2009, and they had three daughters, Romelle Berry of Easton, Andrea Martinez of Easton and Lisette Smith (Mrs. Andrew) of Larkspur, California. He was the beloved Papa of five grandchildren, Jenna Berry, the late Adam Berry, Jessica Martinez, Lauren Lelakes and Benjamin Smith and two great grandchildren, Amelia and Emily Bickford. He graduated from Brockton High School and served in the US Air Force during the Korean conflict. He spent his career at New England Telephone, retiring in 1990. He and his wife spent the winters in Venice, Florida for many years. He was a parishioner at Holy Cross church in Easton. He is also survived by his brother Raymond Chassey of Missouri and sister Claire Power of New Jersey and is the brother of the late Rose Marie McCarthy. He has several nieces and nephews. Roger loved to play tennis and played well into his 80s. He attributed his longevity to his strict diet of black coffee, hamburgers especially from McMenamy's in Easton, Absolute martinis and cigarettes. He was a voracious reader and loved to discuss the news and current events. In his later years, Roger experienced dementia and participated in the Boston University Alzheimer Center Hope Study. Before his death he made arrangements to donate his brain for research into the causes and brain changes associated with aging and Alzheimers disease. In lieu of flowers donations in Roger's memory may be made to Boston University Alzheimers Disease Research Center or the Alzheimers Association (alz.org) A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. in the Holy Cross Church, 225 Purchase Street, Easton, MA. 02375 with interment to follow in Furnace Village Cemetery, Easton.

We will miss Roger. He was the sweetest guy. Always a smile on his face. My Mom had a special place in her heart for him. We have lots of fond memories and laughs from Claire's annual Birthday Parties and meeting the family for lunches.
He is forever in our heart.
